Mesa Mental Health FAQs: Insurance, Costs, and Visits

GeT iN tOUCH

At Blue Water Psychiatry, we know that reaching out for mental health support can feel like a big step and that practical questions about insurance, costs, and what to expect can make the process feel overwhelming.

To help you feel informed and confident, we’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions patients across Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, and the East Valley ask when starting psychiatric care.

Whether you’re seeking help for depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or OCD, we’re here to make your experience as smooth, transparent, and supportive as possible.

Do You Accept Insurance?

Yes — Blue Water Psychiatry accepts most major insurance plans. Coverage varies by provider, but we commonly work with:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS)
  • Aetna
  • Cigna / Evernorth
  • UnitedHealthcare / Optum
  • Medicare and select Medicare Advantage plans

We’ll verify your benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises. If you prefer, you can also self-pay for privacy or flexibility.

What If My Insurance Isn’t Accepted?

If your plan isn’t in-network, you can still be seen as an out-of-network patient. We’ll provide a superbill (detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan.

Our front office can help you estimate out-of-pocket costs and guide you on how to file for reimbursement if desired.

How Much Do Appointments Cost Without Insurance?

We offer transparent, competitive pricing for self-pay patients. Costs depend on the type and length of the visit:

  • Initial psychiatric evaluation (60 minutes): $250–$350
  • Follow-up medication management visit (20–30 minutes): $125–$175
  • Psychotherapy sessions (45–60 minutes): $150–$200

Payment is due at the time of service. We accept major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and debit payments.

Our goal is to make care accessible — without unexpected fees or complicated billing.

What Should I Expect at My First Visit?

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation where we take the time to understand your symptoms, history, and goals. You’ll meet with a licensed provider who will:

  • Review your medical and mental health background
  • Discuss your current concerns and daily functioning
  • Explore past treatments and medication experiences
  • Develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include therapy, medication, or both

This visit typically lasts 45–60 minutes and sets the foundation for your ongoing care.

Are Telehealth Appointments Available?

Yes! Blue Water Psychiatry offers secure telehealth visits across Arizona. You can meet with your provider from home, work, or school — wherever you feel most comfortable.

Telehealth visits are great for:

  • Busy professionals or parents
  • Students managing class schedules
  • Individuals in rural or remote areas of Arizona

All telehealth appointments are HIPAA-compliant, ensuring your privacy and confidentiality.

How Often Will I Need to Be Seen?

Visit frequency depends on your treatment plan. Most patients are seen:

  • Every 2–4 weeks when starting new medication
  • Every 1–3 months once symptoms are stable
  • Weekly or biweekly for therapy sessions, if part of your plan

Your provider will adjust the schedule based on your progress, comfort, and treatment needs.
